Ray and Mikelyn Clausen are enjoying their golden years together, but they are anything but retired. This dynamic duo is successfully building a strong Qivana team not only here in the United States, but also in Vietnam and Mexico. “The fact that we are finding such success both here and internationally, and at our age, just proves that there really are no limits with Qivana!” says Mikelyn. “Our future looks better and better with every step, thanks to Qivana,” adds Ray.
Ray and Mikelyn have both enjoyed being involved in the network marketing industry in the past mainly because of their love of associating with people. Ray worked 39 years in the electrical utility industry and retired as one of the vice presidents of Alabama electric. Retirement was short lived however, when a friend invited him to buy into a filter manufacturing company. This business venture lasted nine years and turned out to be an incredible and very enjoyable success for Ray. Mikelyn’s only job outside of the home was as the director of volunteer services for a local hospital. Together, the Clausens have five children, 11 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. After officially retiring, the Clausens sold their home in Alabama and moved to Florida. “We are enjoying a laid back lifestyle at the beach and it has been great!” exclaims Ray.
The Clausens are long-time friends of John Terhune and Ernie Lechner. “We feel blessed to be around John, Ernie, and their wives and we respect and admire their leadership,” says Mikelyn. The personal relationships and credibility that the Clausens have with the Terhunes and Lechners made it easy for them to want to be a part of Qivana. “At first, we felt like we were too old to start something new,” admits Mikelyn. “But we feel like we’ve been led to this opportunity.”
Faithfully and enthusiastically, the Clausens signed up on March 3, 2009. “We didn’t have any products and the company didn’t even have a name yet. Our kids thought we had really gone off the deep end,” laughs Mikelyn. They had confidence in the leadership, and once they began taking the Qore System products, the Clausens had proof. “I challenge people to consistently take our products for three months and to let their doctor tell them if the products are working or not. We have measurable results,” she adds.
Ray and Mikelyn steadily built their Qivana business and hit Diamond in April 2010. This success was followed by a period of slow growth, but the Clausens remained determined and focused; a quality learned from their upline, John Terhune and Dr. Matt and Tracy St. John. “We know that the secret behind any accomplishment in this business is an exceptionally supportive upline.” Mikelyn admits, “John, Matt, and Traci have all been so faithful and supportive in coming here to do meetings for us. Matt comes to Destin once every month to support our team. They have been instrumental in our success.”
Even better, this slow period forced them to think outside of the box. “We know the economy here is tough, so we thought it would be beneficial to expand our business internationally,” she says. Mikelyn is a member of Business Networking International (BNI), so she began searching online for BNI members in Mexico. She found an excellent contact that spoke perfect English and was looking for the right business opportunity. Ray is also a member of the Rotary Club, another international organization, so he obtained a list of all the Rotary Club presidents in Mexico and began contacting them. The Clausens now have a team growing in Mexico. “It’s simple thinking and a huge step of taking action,” says Mikelyn.
The Clausens quickly realized that having an international business didn’t necessarily require international travel. “We have so many people from different countries and cultures living here in the United States with ties to their native countries. We knew that if we could focus on personally sponsoring people here in the United States, the possibilities of them sharing it with their families and friends back home would be great,” says Mikelyn. This expansion started by personally sponsoring individuals in Atlanta, Georgia who began working with the Vietnamese population in that city. This business growth quickly expanded to Vietnam and before they knew it, Ray and Mikelyn were hitting Executive Diamond! “Getting to know these people, their cultures, and their communities is amazing,” says Ray. “We feel so blessed to have the opportunity to work with both the Vietnamese and Mexican people,” says Mikelyn.
Their advice to other IBOs considering international business expansion is to look around and start personally sponsoring here in the United States. “You’ll quickly discover just how many opportunities there are with people living here from different countries,” says Mikelyn. They both agree that the benefits they have gained from working with people of different cultures and countries have been amazing. “We have a small challenge with the language sometimes, but the opportunity to do business with them in their communities far exceeds any challenge,” says Mikelyn.
Building a business across borders can have its challenges, so Ray and Mikelyn teach their team members to keep things simple and to use the system already in place. “We try to show them the simplest ways to do things so that everyone can afford to be in this business,” says Ray. One example is that the Clausens only serve water at their meetings. They also use the SEE concept, which is Share the business opportunity; Engage by bringing them to the team through a meeting, phone call, etc.; and Enroll—it’s their decision.
Ray and Mikelyn’s outlook on their golden years together has taken on new meaning with Qivana. “It has changed our lives immensely,” says Ray. “Qivana has given us independence and improved health, and the income has enabled us to put back into our retirement, instead of spending it, which is fantastic!” Mikelyn adds, “Our children now tell us to please not act our age! We feel so grateful for our upline and our team members and we look forward to enjoying these wonderful relationships with our new Qivana family.”
